Welcome to Tomo21 Sushi, a hidden gem nestled in New York City’s vibrant SoHo district. Situated at 172 Thompson St, this sushi bar effortlessly combines culinary skill with authentic Japanese flavors, establishing itself as a must-visit for sushi aficionados.

Tomo21 Sushi is renowned for its commitment to freshness and quality. With each dish, you can expect the highest-quality ingredients, making every bite a delight. Notable appetizers like the Salmon Butter, where broiled salmon is elevated with rich butter, and the exquisite Ika Kimchi, featuring squid marinated in a spicy sauce, set a high standard for what follows.

The sushi offerings are equally impressive. Many patrons rave about the Sashimi Lunch, which features an impressive 10 pieces of raw fish paired with rice, perfect for those looking to savor the flavors of the ocean. The feedback from customers speaks volumes—the fish is described as "super high quality" and "buttery," highlighting the meticulous preparation and attention to detail.

Beyond just the food, the quaint atmosphere of Tomo21 Sushi offers a cozy yet inviting dining experience. Many diners appreciate the laid-back, hole-in-the-wall vibe that allows for a casual meal without the pretenses often associated with upscale sushi joints. However, you might find the space a tad compact and the ambiance slightly worn, suggesting it’s more about the food than the frills.

It’s important to note that the service has received commendations for its promptness and friendliness, further enhancing the dining experience. Even though some patrons expressed nostalgia for the days of the original owner and crew, most seem willing to overlook any minor service imperfections for a satisfying sushi feast.

In conclusion, Tomo21 Sushi stands out not just for its delicious offerings but for its ability to create a welcoming environment focused on the joy of eating—and that’s what truly matters in a sushi bar. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, make sure to give this spot a try. Your taste buds will thank you!

Decent sushi - melty and fresh. Pieces are quite large too. Not a 5 because the pieces seem slightly warm. Maybe bc the environment is a bit dingy it doesn't feel super clean but I'm sure it's fine. $26 for the lunch special. Kind of hefty for dinner at $38 which is more in line with other sushi places. I remember this place used to be known for excellent value. No one can fight inflation I guess....Wouldn't recommend for dates. Overall, casual lunch spot with solid sushi but I don't feel super inclined to return.

Moved to NYC last week, so we are really fresh to the city and still looking around for places to eat. We originally were going to go to another sushi place but the wait was too long. Decided to come here on a whim. There was still about a 30 minute wait on a Thursday evening. Once we got seated, the staff took our order and the food came promptly. The ambiance of the place was cute and hole in the wall, which we enjoy. The restroom wasn't the cleanest as it's super small. We ordered two soft shell crab hand rolls, chirashi bowl, and a salmon combo. The fish was super high quality and I really enjoyed the buttery salmon. I think the prices are very reasonable for the quality of fish that they serve here. I also really enjoyed the amount of fish they give in the chirashi bowl! Overall, really recommend this place to everyone and will definitely be coming back.

There is always a line here. Well worth it. Reached there little before 5 pm - when they open. Easy then. It got busier as I had my meal. This is the place for sushi. Just great food and service. Simple restaurant that concentrates on its food. I say at the counter and saw the artists at work. Overall great portion worth the price for the quality.

The sushi deluxe and sashimi deluxe never miss! Always fresh, filling and delicious. The space is small and cozy, with tables and bar seating. Service is friendly and quick! Highly recommend.

You can't fault the low prices and decent quality of this Greenwich Village staple. They offer huge cuts of fish that are often twice the size of other places, plus an array of surprisingly interesting apps for the less raw seafood-inclined. Oysters in butter? Deep fried egg in shoyu soup? They're all here.

It was delicious! I got the sushi deluxe and it is a lot of food for one person. The slices of fish were huge!! I couldn't finish the rice at the end. The place is pretty small and I had to sit very close to the other table. They have a bathroom but it is really small.
